This image, made from a well known viewpoint on Ecola Point looking south toward Cannon Beach, Oregon, was made after sunset using a 4×5 view camera and ASA 100 film. I had previously focused the camera on distant rocks, and just left the controls set, as it was too dark to see the controls or focus an image on the ground glass. I just pointed the camera at what I wanted for composition and arbitrarily gave about a 30 second exposure, trusting the wide exposure latitude of color negative film would handle the task. The time-exposure smooths the waves, giving a similar pattern of sea and sky. Click on image to enlarge.
