Silver Falls State Park is one of the Wonders in the Oregon Landscape! In the Old Cascades east of Salem, the Capital of Oregon, is this unique State Park which features a 7 mile circular hiking trail from which one can visit 10 beautiful waterfalls! This image of Upper North Falls is from the northernmost spur of the hiking trail and shows the pillow basalt formations indicative of the volcanic origins of this landscape, as well as the complex shapes and patterns in the eroded rock forming the streambed. The very first hints of autumn color are amplified by the low-angle warm early morning sunlight shining in through the forest behind the falls. Click on image to enlarge.
