Continuing the celebration of Leonard Conkling’s life, we stood together admiring this scene from a ridge near Dhankuta in eastern Nepal, on the way to the base camp of Kanchenjunga. Makalu is one of the “8000 meter group”, and at 27,838 feet is the fifth highest peak on the planet. It is in the Mahalangur Himalayas approximately 12 miles southeast of Mt. Everest. It is an isolated peak with a beautiful quadrangular shape nicely illuminated in the warm morning light. Click on image to enlarge.
