Crater Lake Sunrise

This image from the end of May emphasizes that Crater Lake is one of the snowiest places in the state of Oregon.

 

The snow level at the Lodge was over 8 feet, and the roads were closed around the lake except for a short quarter mile to a viewpoint. The rapidly clearing clouds showed the classic deep blue of the lake only minutes later, but this moody view emphasizes the powerful natural forces creating this Oregon Icon.
