Redwing Blackbird Singing in the Winter Cold
This time of year the Redwing Blackbirds can be found singing as if it is springtime territorial establishment, but it is still winter and the cold air condenses their song-breath into little “smoke rings”. I like this image from the back as it shows more of the complex beauty of their plumage than my usual front view, which shows mostly black. This is from Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge north of Vancouver, Washington.
